Christmas Ideas

Just in case anybody needed some ideas for Christmas for my lil' ones:
KYLE-Adventure Books. Kyle has taken an interest in READING! Right now he is reading the Hardy Boys. It's Saturday morning, he's NOT watching cartoons-he's READING! Woo hoo! Later today we are going to the McKinney Library and getting a Library card so we can check out books. Kyle is very excited.
Melanie-Bear in the Big Blue House DVDs. She absolutely LOVES this Bear. I've never seen anything like it. And if you can find it, Bear in the Big Blue House books. Also, a rocking horse of some kind.
If anyone shops at Sam's Club, they have a Radio Flyer Rocking Horse that Melanie LOVES to ride on when we go there!

Thanks people.

Going Back To Work

This morning Melanie & I are going for a drug test at Cook's Children's Hospital in Ft. Worth. I hope I pass, it's my first drug test. The program from so many years ago keeps running through my mind:
D-drug
A-abuse
R-resistance
E-education
DARE to be DRUG FREE!
I can't believe I can remember that from elementary and middle school. The policemen, the dog that was a detective (Sgt. Gruff), and the message they sent impacted me so well. I'm glad I didn't do anything illegal. So wish us luck.

By, the way, on a totally different note...for those of you that would like to criticize me for going back to work, want to make me feel guilty, tell me I didn't sacrifice enough, etc.-SAVE it. My mind and heart, are laying it on pretty thick already, I don't need it from anybody else. So unless you're calling/writing to congratulate me-SAVE it, I don't want to hear from you then. You're not walking in our shoes, and you're not providing for my family.

Melanie Enjoying Bear In the Big Blue House

Updated Photos of Melanie

I always find it odd to see the kinds of things that bring joy to Melanie. The kinds of "toys" she finds to play with are hilarious at times. She has also taken an interest in "Bear In the Big Blue House." She loves this show! Melanie also enjoys stirring and "helping" me feed the cats.

Heard Museum-McKinney, TX

Melanie & I went on a field trip with Kyle to The Heard Museum in McKinney. We had a very good time. Everyone ate lunch together-picnic style-very fun! We observed nature, small wild animals, and learned about dinosaurs. If you have kids-great place to go-and not too expensive. This is something I'll definitely miss when I go back to work. Hopefully, when Kyle goes on another field trip I'll have vacation time so we can go.

Kyle's School Program

Kyle had a school program called the Rainbow Connection. It's about kids, their dreams, their ambitions, and what's really over the rainbow. Kyle was a back up singer and it was difficult to get a good picture of him. But he was so good, and had such a good time rocking out on stage. He was in charge of the "pot of gold." Which was a very important part! I'm very proud of Kyle and I love him very much. I hope when I go back to work I don't miss those very important functions.

For Kate-I Love You!

Good News-Bad News

The good news is, I'm going back to work. I've been hired by Cook Children's Hospital to work at their Specialty Clinic in Denton. Some of you may know Cook Children's Hospital, some may not. I do. And WOW, do I feel a little proud to be working for such an awesome company, and an amazing research hospital. Go ahead and check it out to learn more about Cook's and the history behind it-you'll be amazed too. cookchildrens.org
More good news-I have narrowed my day care search to 3 prospects-all of which are minutes from where I'll be working, so I'll be spending my lunch hour with Melanie.
Good news on Kyle's end-he's quite happy to have me go back to work. I'll be off on the weekends which will able us to go out and do more things that we couldn't always afford to do without me working. Like going to the movies every time he wanted to, or grabbing a Sonic meal without planning for it, ordering pizza because I didn't feel like making dinner, and even driving our family car-without worrying about the gas that goes in it. Kyle says he likes having me home, however..."Mom, I'm learning to be responsible and I like having my own time. I'll be OK if you go back to work." How do you think that made me feel? At first I cried, then I felt PROUD.
More good news-instead of just making ends meet, and having a tight budget, we will have more flexibility with a SAVINGS! And we'll be able to pay off our debts quickly! Don't get me wrong...this past year we have done just fine on Duane's income, of course we sacrificed. However, we will still live well within our means, but enjoy a little more flexibility. Go Dave Ramsey Go!!!
Bad News-I'm going back to work. I won't be able to see Kyle off to school, or right when he gets home. I won't be able to walk anymore during the week-I vow to save it for the weekend. I won't be able to attend Kyles school activities unless I have approved vacation time. I won't be able to take Melanie to the park at the same time Kyle is having his lunch recess-so we get to see him and spend time with him. I won't be available to watch my niece Kate when Lori needs me to-which means I'll see less of my sister and her family. I'll miss that. Melanie going into day care-that's bad news. However Melanie seems to be quite an independent little girl, she might just enjoy and benifit from a day care setting. But, she's quite fond of nursing, so to not be able to have it whenever she wants may be difficult for her, and me. On the upside, I will be seeing her on my lunch hour so, if she wants it it will be there.
Well, on a positive note-I was able to stay home for over a year with my children and my husband. Who by the way is very supportive of me going back to work. We have discussed it several times throughout the year of the "what if." The timing is right, it's a great opportunity for my career as a nurse, and I need to jump in. I'm still going to be the best Mom and wife I can be. And we'll see what happens. So D-Day is December 1st. That week I will be training in Ft. Worth, Duane will take care of Kyle & Melanie. December 8th, I'll make my 40 minute commute to Denton and work 8-5 Monday-Friday.
Wish me luck...wish us luck!

Long Time No Post!

Wow it's been 1 week since my last post! Feels like longer. Anyhoo, we've been busy. My parents came out for a visit from California. I LOVE when my parents visit...I miss them dearly since I've moved to Texas. Can you tell I'm the baby of the bunch, and I'm the needy one! While they were here, we went to the Dallas Arboritum...what a waste of $8.00/person-Melanie was free. It's a great place to go if you want those specail Kodak moments. However, if it's hot, and you have a ten year old that is so tired of pictures-then you can't really enjoy it and it's not fun. The senery is beautiful however and I guess that's the purpose of going.
We also celebrated Halloween. I love Halloween-my sister's B-Day, my kids dressing up in costumes, candy:receiving and giving, and I LOVE Halloween decorations(not the scary kind).
We also spent a lot of time at my sister's house because that's where my parents stay. So here's a few pictures of the past week.
