Kyle's 8th. Grade Graduation

I can't believe Kyle has graduated from middle school!!!! He's going to high school. This is CRAZY! Yet, super EXCITING! Great job, Kyle!

The Prettiest Weed

Isn't this the prettiest weed you ever saw? Melanie adores it! It's in our neighbors yard & when it was time for Kyle to mow it, Melanie asked if he could mow around it. He didn't. But it grew back! YAY!

Pickling Cucumbers & Pickling Garlic

Duane & Melanie helping to slice the cucumbers for pickling. Duane helping to fill the jars with cucumbers, jalapenos, dill & garlic. Duane helping to peel the garlic. Beautiful garlic fresh from McKinney's local Farmer's Market. Yummy garlic filled with Apple Cider vinegar for a tasty treat in about 2 months! This garlic is being pickled in the sun for 4 weeks. Then I will drain a small amount of the juice & add honey. Let it sit for another 4 weeks and then we'll get to ENJOY! I'm so excited-I can not wait.

Cutting Cucumbers for Pickling

Sylvia enjoying Melanie helping in the slicing process. This is Melanie's first attempt at slicing in the kitchen. Paul & Sylvia showed us how to pickle cucumbers for pickles. They came out SUPER delicious. They were so good we ate them all! Just this past weekend Duane & I made another batch. We can't wait to try those.

Kitchen Chopper

Melanie is starting to become very interested in helping in the kitchen. I love how she listens to instruction & isn't afraid. Don't mind those dirty nails! HA! I promise, she DID wash her hands before cutting. She even does tastes tests-just like any good chef.

City of Rowlett: Touch A Truck

On Memorial weekend we went to the city of Rowlett for a free event called Touch a Truck. The city has all kinds of cars & trucks for children to climb all over & ask questions about. There was a school bus, a city bus, SWAT truck, police cruiser & motorcycle, trash truck, plumbing truck, water truck, a tractor, ambulance & fire truck. Melanie was not that impressed with going in & out of the vehicles. However, there was a hula hoop contest that Melanie participated in. That was AWESOME for her. She did GREAT! But, I think her most favorite time was going into the city of Rowlett's library for crafts. We also spent a good amount of time in there reading books from the shelves.

Frisco Discovery Center

Melanie & I went to the Frisco Discovery center. What a COOL place! They had a theme of "Spring & Flowers". There was story time. They read The Boy Who Grew Flowers. Which was a terrific book. Then they had 3 stations; 1. Learning about wind and the children made a wind catcher. 2. Learning about the different parts of a plant & eating them: Melanie got to eat peas in a pod (seeds), carrots ( root), celery (stem), spinach (leaf), and broccoli (flower). 3. Making a sun catcher. After going to all the stations the children got to explore the science activities. There was a water table, levers, pulleys, balancing, germs, molecules, electricity & many more things. They had a giant nose there that would sneeze every few seconds which was very loud & drove Melanie crazy. At the end they gave the children a snack-chocolate pudding (dirt) with gummy worms (worms)! Yuck! But it was FUN! Melanie also received a small bottle of water decorated with flowers & a flowered pen. But her favorite parts were the story time & crafts. This place is really neat. We'll definitely be going back.
