Bond. Counter-top bond.

Melanie likes to hang out with me when I'm in the kitchen by climbing on the living room chair & sitting on the counter. Most people probably wouldn't want their kids sitting atop the counter but we really don't mind. Our basic concern is "Please don't fall backwards!" While she's on the counter we sometimes eat together, clean fruits & veggies, she helps me chop food with our chopper. She even helps to put dishes away. But sometimes she just sits there & talks to me. Just the other day I told her this would be 1 of my fondest memories of motherhood-her sitting on the counter eating a grilled cheese sandwich, while I fixed a turkey & cheese sandwich & us just chatting away. And she said "And snuggling too!" Of course tears pooled in my eyes & I gave her a big smooshie hug!

BLAGH!

Well, 2 weeks ago Lori & Kate came down with a stomach BUG. Last weekend I had a stomach bug. So it's only fair that Kyle comes down with it this weekend. Starting at about 1:30 AM Kyle has been vomiting. To make matters worse, he has a friend spending the night. The last time he vomited was 6:30 AM. I hope it's the last time & he can rest through out the day. Poor Kyle. It sucks big time watching your kids puke their guts out. I feel for him.

Lily, Melanie's Friend

Melanie has a friend , Lily, whom no longer lives on our street. We've known her for nearly a year, but have just recently gotten to know her. Prior to her moving back to New York with her Mom, Dad, & twin baby brother's, Lily spent some totally fun time with Melanie. Lily came over to our house a few times & hung out while her parents packed. They played so well together. It was really neat to be able to say "Melanie has a friend over." They played in her room, in her cottage. Had snacks. Played pretend. Melanie having a friend over was so different than "baby sitting". It was like they were becoming true friends for life. I hope one day they'll catch up with each other. It is very sad to see Lily & her family go. We will miss them!

Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head

Look At ME!!

I am REALLY behind on my posts-SORRY!
This is from when Kyle had a SNOW DAY from school a week & a half ago. Duane went to work. I took Kyle, Melanie & our neighbor friend Keonte to Academy Sorts & Outdoors to outfit myself for these "trying weather conditions." Ha,ha,ha!!! I figured, "Hey, it's snowed every year since I've lived here & it's hard for me to participate 'cuz it's SO COLD! Why not get the right gear?" So that's what I did. I bought snow boots, a beanie (although Melanie took it from me), and snow gloves. Mittins are dumb, why do they even make them? They don't keep your hands warm. Anyway, Kyle & Keonte got a pair of boots too. It was only appropriate. I even bought the sizes a little big so that (if they took care of them) they could wear them next year.
It was really AWESOME to play in the snow instead of being a wall flower. It's amazing, that with the right gear, you can be warm when it's 20 degrees outside & play in the snow. Who would have thought?

Piggy Want Some Milkie Pies?

I can not even tell you how this warms my heart!

Melanie's Gettin' Her Groove On!

Kyle & His Room

Kyle totally reminds me of me! I had to clean my room every weekend-and nearly every weekend I would rearrange/organize my room as well as clean it. It would take me all day sometimes.
I'm really glad to see Kyle taking pride in his room and learning organization. It's a great skill!

Snow Day!

As usual I stayed on the front step of our house & watched everyone play in teh snow-it's way too cold for me! But, I did eventually make coffee & hot cocoa for everyone! Turned out to be a nice Sunday.

Observation

This is just a quick observation. I definitely understand where the phrase "A woman's place is in the kitchen." came from. Since staying at home after Melanie's been born I think I spend about 90% of my time in the kitchen in some way shape or form for 1 reason or another. I am either making a grocery list, planning or preparing a meal/snack, getting my animals food, putting groceries away, eating, cleaning, reading, organizing. My kitchen really is the heart of my home. Good thing it's centered in the middle of my house! Anyway, I guess that phrase doesn't seem demeaning at all once you really consider it. I'm alright with it. I like my kitchen & I like being in it. I also really like it when Melanie climbs all over the counters to hang out with me.

I'm Off on Sundays Now!!!!!!! Woo HOOO!

I no longer work on Sundays! It's AMAZING! Totally AWESOME! I can't beleive it. After 18 months of working on the weekends, we can finally have a "FAMILY DAY" where Duane doesn't have to take a day off from work in order for us to have a whole day together! We made chocolate chip cookies, I napped with Melanie, we made dinner together, we watched the snow come down, watched T.V., played board games. It was a really great day. I'm really looking forward to enjoying my whole family being together.

Sun Catcher

I found this at Micheal's and had a memory flash! Lori & I did these when we were little. So I grabbed one for Melanie. We had a lot of fun doing it together. It matches her room completly!

We Bought a Coconut!

Melanie & I have read about coconuts a few times in her library books. The grocery store finally had some so we bought one! Duane used a hammer & screwdriver to poke holes in the three dented areas "eyes" of the coconut. We let it drain. Then we toasted each other with the coconut water. Did you know that it's not called coconut milk? It's not "milk" until you puree the coconut "meat" and mix it with the water that it's called coconut milk. I didn't know that until I watched a "How to open a coconut.." video on YouTube. I've learned a lot about the benefits of the coconut. It's quite good for you. In the Pacific War/World War 2 it was siphoned directly from the coconut & used to give emergency plasma transfusions because it has the same electrolyte balance as our blood. It's better than processed baby formula. It has lauric acid in it which is in good ol' MAMA's MILK! AWESOME! I drank a whole load of coconut water! I bet Melanie's Milkie Pies were totally pumped up! It's more nutritious than whole milk. Which isn't a surprise. Whole milk isn't that good for you. There's more benefits to coconuts but these were the one's I thought were the most interesting.
After we tasted the coconut water Duane opened the coconut! It was quite an adventure! I don't really care for coconut. But it sure was fun trying a fresh one.
Kyle & his buddies Dylan & Luke tried some too. However they're too fast & I wasn't allowed to take their picture! Ha, ha, ha!!!

Ride On Cow Girl!

I love it when Melanie plays pretend! The cottage is her "ranch". She has rain boots, but I think I'm going to buy her some Cow Girl boots. Afterall, we live in TX!

Melanie Can Write Her Name!

I wrote it first then she did. I helped her with the A, but the rest was her!
