Melanie's Favorite Pass Time
Back To School For Kyle
Can you believe it...it's that time of year again. Kyle's first day of fourth grade is today. I keep wondering what I'm going to do without him? For the last couple of weeks I've heard parents talk about how they can't wait for shcool to start-the kids are driving them nuts. Not me! He was my helper, my buddy. My somebody else to talk to other than a baby, grocery clerk and my walking buddy Rebekah. The house is so quite. There is no TV, nobody ringing the doorbell for Kyle, no kids laughing, yelling, no basket ball bouncing, no cap guns banging, no skate boards screeching. It's just the sound of quiet...until the baby wakes-up! That's OK, I'll get used to it. Then it will be hard to have him back full time for winter break. Anyhoo, Kyle's teacher's name is Mrs. Wassum. We met her last Thursday at back to school night and she seems very nice. I really hope Kyle has an awesome year at Vega. Last year will be very hard to beat. He had an AMAZING teacher, Ms. Holeman, she just adored Kyle, and he her. She was so fun, strict, but FUN! I don't think I ever saw Kyle as confident, comfortable and as happy with school as he was last year. Even homework time wasn't a struggle. He was a leader, a good role model, and an adovacate for new students. I'm very proud of him and I hope he has a great first day of school.
So here are a few pics of what Kyle's first morning of school was like. He took a shower, although he took one last night, he played his play station, ate breakfast, played with Melanie, watched cartoons, and then we walked to school.

Happy Retirement Mom
My mom is RETIRING! That is sooooo WEIRD! I have quite a few fond memories of her administrative career. When I was growing up I remember going to work with my Mom several times at RUSD. It was always so much fun. I think that's where Lori and I learned our ORGANIZATIONAL skills from. We would file for our Mom and her co-workers, play on the type writer, color, & take stuff out of boxes to put them away. And now that she is retiring I guess it's safe to say, that's where we got some of our school supplies! Folders, 3 ring binders, pencil, pens, highlighters...you name it! We always got to go out to lunch. Co-workers would give us candy. The cafeteria ladies would let us have cookies. It wasn't work, it was fun time! Even as an adult I enjoyed going to RUSD. When I was pregnant with Kyle, I would have lunch with Mom at least once a week, and her co-workers were so encouraging and excited about my Mom being a Grandma, and me being pregnant. There are some nice people there. Now, that I am older, married with 2 children and moved away, Mom tells us that her co-workers are still interested in how Lori & I are doing. That's nice. Although I never worked there, only visited, I am a tiny bit sad that my Mom will no longer be working at RUSD, and I'll never get to drive to Riverside again to hang out with her for lunch. For the first time in a long time, I wish I was back in CA for one more day...I wish I could take you out to lunch at Spoons. Well, enough with the sappiness. I hope you enjoy retirement Mom, you deserve some relaxation. This video clip is for you. Enjoy your last day at WORK!!!

Sewer Fun In the Summertime
I know that this is probably a VERY GROSS adventure to let you child do, however, Kyle and Luke are having a BLAST!!!! I am letting them play in the SEWER! They have been busy all morning and afternoon investigating the SEWER! They claim to be fishing or "getting a bite", and that's why they are so interested. So far they have brought me a broken brick, (2) 10 pound weights, a bag-o-pooh, and a bag of maggots. I am VERY DISGUSTED, but very happy Kyle is having so much fun. All he's eaten today are 2 muffins and an apple juice Popsicle. Normally he would have eaten a good breakfast, a snack, lunch and another snack, and trying to eat more. But today he is too busy. And you know what? They are actually having a good team adventure. They use a 20ft. dog leash to hook up to each other, so if one gets scared or lost they can just follow the line back up. They are using walkie talkies, a cell phone and have a pocket knife and flash light. What more do they need? What imagination they have, and guts! I would NEVER play in the sewer! All Kyle needs now is a disinfecting bath and a good hardy meal. I think I'll make meat loaf. Good job Kyle. I love you and I'm proud of you.
